After watching one too many episodes of the TV show American Greed, where unsuspecting people got bilked out of their life savings by unscrupulous advisors, I knew I had to do something to protect people from those who prey on the less financially sophisticated. This was the birth of AdvisorFit, a free online question and analysis tool that helps you evaluate financial advisors so you can find the best fit for your needs. How do we do this?
- We ask the tough questions. We have created what we believe to be the most comprehensive and thorough financial advisor questionnaire around. Basically, we ask all the questions – even the tough ones. What we found is that most people evaluating an advisor don’t know the right questions to ask – or at least all of the right questions to ask. Our questionnaire takes the guesswork out of knowing which questions to ask.
- We help you analyze the answers. Asking the right questions won’t help you find the right financial advisor if you aren’t sure how to interpret the answers. The financial field is filled with so much jargon and wishy-washy language that it is difficult for even the experts to understand. We will help you identify red flags and help you understand the advisor’s answers better so you can make an informed decision.
The process is very simple. You complete a short form where you answer a couple of questions and enter the email address of the advisor you want to evaluate. The advisor is notified by email that you are interested in having them complete the questionnaire. Once they complete the questionnaire you receive an email with their completed questionnaire and our automated analysis. If you like what you see, you can continue to evaluate the advisor by doing a background check, a regulatory check, calling references, etc. If you don’t like what you see in the questionnaire, find another advisor and have her complete the questionnaire. Continue this process until you find the right fit for you.
